UHMW (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) offers exceptional wear resistance, exceeding even that of steel. UHMW also offers broad chemical resistance and a low coefficient of friction, making it an extremely versatile engineering material suitable for many demanding applications.
UHMW polymers offer similar lubricity to PTFE, yet possess superior wear resistance, with an average molecular weight 10 times that of conventional high-density polyethylene resins. This higher molecular weight makes UHMW polymers renowned for their unique combination of properties. Applications include interior and exterior surfaces of drinking water, chemical, fuel, and hydraulic hoses; the undersides of skis and snowboards; chute linings to reduce friction and wear; automotive weatherstripping; and thousands of other applications. Available in thicknesses from 0.003 inches (3 mils) to 0.125 inches (125 mils). Available with or without adhesive, in sheets, slit rolls, and custom and standard die-cut shapes.
